Grief Therapy

Grief Therapy is a form of psychological support that helps individuals process and cope with the loss of a loved one or a significant life change. It’s grounded in understanding the emotional, physical, and behavioral responses to grief, and offers tools to navigate through them in a healthy, healing way.

When Is Grief Therapy Helpful?

Grief therapy can help if:

  • Your grief feels overwhelming or doesn’t improve over time.

  • You’re experiencing depression, anxiety, or thoughts of hopelessness.

  • You have trouble functioning in daily life due to the loss.

  • You’re avoiding reminders of the person or obsessively focused on them.

  • You’re experiencing guilt, anger, or unresolved feelings that are hard to manage alone.

    Common Themes in Grief Therapy

    • Accepting the reality of the loss

    • Working through the pain of grief

    • Adjusting to life without the deceased

    • Finding ways to maintain a connection while moving forward

    • Rebuilding a sense of purpose and identity

    What to Expect

    Sessions may include:

    • Talking about your loss and what it meant to you

    • Exploring emotions like anger, guilt, numbness, or confusion

    • Learning coping skills (like mindfulness or journaling)

    • Setting small goals for daily functioning

    • Developing rituals or memorials to honor the lost person

I utilize writing therapy and other expressive arts therapies to help clients give voice to emotions that may be expressing themselves in less than desirable ways. I create an empathic environment where people feel safe sharing and can leave feeling heard and validated.
